When firefighters arrived on the scene at 10 Miller Place, Maeder immediately put out a call for additional units, and firefighters were able to have the fire under control by 6:57 p.m.
The home, which is uninhabitable was severely damaged, and a resident and several animals were displayed, Maeder said.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental as a result of the failure of a piece of mechanical equipment, Maeder said.
No one was injured and the blaze did not affect surrounding buildings, he added.
Assisting at the scene included the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, Arlington Fire District, Roosevelt Fire District, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Water, Town of Poughkeepsie Building, Central Hudson, and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response. The Roosevelt Fire District provided standby coverage and responded to alarms while the incident was taking place.
